Course Requirements

10-Day Instructor Course

Candidates enrolling in our 10-Day ITSSAR Instructor Course must meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 12 months’ experience operating a counterbalance forklift truck.

  • A valid counterbalance operator certificate (a copy must be provided upon registration).

  • Completion of a Refresher Course to national standards within 6 months prior to attending.

At First Class Safety, we offer Refresher Training at a discounted rate for those enrolling on the Instructor Course who need to meet this requirement.

5-Day Re-Registration & Direct Entry Course

Candidates applying for the 5-Day Re-Registration or Direct Entry Course must provide:

  • Their current tutor number

  • A copy of their instructor certification

 

If your Instructor Certification has expired, please contact our administration team. We can assist you in arranging a potential extension through ITSSAR when you book onto our course.

Our Tutors

Our ITSSAR Instructor Course is delivered by a team of highly experienced and qualified ITSSAR Category 4 (CAT4) Tutors, each bringing extensive expertise in industrial equipment operation, instructional methodology, and health & safety standards.

With real-world experience and a passion for teaching, our CAT4 tutors are authorised to train, assess, and develop instructors to ITSSAR standards. They are dedicated to delivering engaging, high-quality training that ensures every delegate gains the skills, confidence, and competence required to progress to Category 1 Instructor/Examiner status.

Accreditation, Registration and Certification

Upon successful completion of the 10-Day ITSSAR Instructors Course, candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Registration confirming they have met the prerequisite standards set by ITSSAR.

Successful candidates will be registered as an ITSSAR Category 1 (CAT1) Instructor/Examiner, enabling them to deliver and assess accredited training in the operation of industrial equipment.

Candidates will also receive:

  • An ITSSAR Instructor ID Badge

  • A unique ITSSAR Instructor Number

This course is primarily focused on counterbalance forklift trucks. However, where candidates already hold relevant training and certification on additional categories of equipment, these may be added to their instructor badge, subject to ITSSAR approval.

To maintain registration, CAT1 Instructors are required to attend a 5-Day refresher course every five years, in line with ITSSAR requirements.
