Candidates enrolling in our 10-Day ITSSAR Instructor Course must meet the following criteria:
A minimum of 12 months’ experience operating a counterbalance forklift truck.
A valid counterbalance operator certificate (a copy must be provided upon registration).
Completion of a Refresher Course to national standards within 6 months prior to attending.
At First Class Safety, we offer Refresher Training at a discounted rate for those enrolling on the Instructor Course who need to meet this requirement.
Candidates applying for the 5-Day Re-Registration or Direct Entry Course must provide:
Their current tutor number
A copy of their instructor certification
If your Instructor Certification has expired, please contact our administration team. We can assist you in arranging a potential extension through ITSSAR when you book onto our course.

The ITSSAR (Independent Training Standards Scheme and Register) Instructor’s Compendium is an essential reference guide, containing up-to-date standards, best practices, and instructional guidelines for delivering effective training in the safe operation of industrial equipment.
This invaluable resource ensures our candidates are fully equipped with the knowledge and materials needed to meet and uphold ITSSAR’s nationally recognised training standards—both during the course and in their future roles as certified instructors.
Upon completing the 10-day ITSSAR Instructors course, candidates receive a Certificate of Registration to certify that the candidate has met the prerequisite standards of ITSSAR and will be registered as a Category 1 Instructor/Examiner. They will also receive a ITSSAR Instructor ID badge and a instructor number.
This course is primarily centered on counterbalance forklift trucks. However, should candidates have training and certification for additional types of equipment, the corresponding categories may be added to their instructor’s badge.
Instructors will be required to attend a 5 Day refresher course every 5 years.
