ITSSAR MEWP 3A Scissorlift Novice

Course Aim

This course is accredited by ITSSAR and provides accredited training for operators. To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate Mobile Elevating Platforms (MEWPs). Trainees will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to safely operate scissor lifts, understand relevant health and safety regulations, and perform their duties efficiently while minimizing risks.

Course Summary

The ITSSAR Scissor Lift Novice Course is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience in operating scissor lifts. It aims to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to safely and efficiently operate scissor lifts in the workplace.

Course Description

Our course contains the following topics.

  • The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 98, LOLER 98 and Working at Height Regulations
  • Safe operator practices including planning of work and risk assessment
  • Daily and weekly maintenance schedules and Pre-use checks
  • Interpretation of safety information and selection and use of personal safety equipment
  • Testing of safety devices, limit switches and motive hydraulic functions
  • Start up and shut down procedure
  • Factors effecting stability
  • Manoeuvring in open and confined areas (level/inclines/rough terrain where applicable)
  • Positioning vehicle for work
  • Basic operational techniques/accessing at height
  • Banksman signalling
  • Working near overhead power lines and near water
  • Working on/travelling on the public highway (where relevant)
  • Emergency lowering procedures
  • Battery care and maintenance/re-charging procedures (where relevant)
  • Re-fuelling procedures (where relevant)
  • Parking and post-stop checks
  • Requirements for thorough examinations

 

By the end of the course candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following: –

  • The need to train and statuary requirements
  • Types of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms
  • Understanding machine stability and limitations
  • Causes of accidents; risks associated with mobile plant
  • Planning and risk assessment
  • Selection, inspection and use of fall prevention equipment
  • Interpretation of safety information
  • Public highway requirements
  • Major components and preventive maintenance as per manufactures handbook
  • Safe operator practices including working near overhead power lines and water
  • Emergency lowering procedures
  • Pre-use checks, start-up procedures and safety checks
  • Factors affecting stability and vehicle limitations
  • Inspection of batteries, re-charging procedures and re-fuelling (where applicable)
  • Safe parking and post-stop checks
  • Requirements for thorough examinations
  • Banksman signalling
  • Effects of differing weather conditions (wind/rain/cold/electrical storms)
  • Working at night

1 Candidate:    6.25 Hours
2 Candidates:  7 Hours
3 Candidates:  7.75 Hours
4 Candidates:  8.5 Hours

Who should attend?

This course is ideal for new operators, those with limited experience, or anyone requiring certification to operate scissor lifts in a workplace setting.

Certification

Delegates will be awarded an ITSSAR accredited certificate and registered on the central register (top scheme system) national database of attendance on successful completion of written and practical assessments.  It is recommended that this be refreshed after 3 years.
